The saying goes amongst Arsenal fans that once a Gunner always a Gunner and here Is how Joe Willock saved Mikel Arteta from punishment. It should be recalled that the Arsenal boss went on a rant after the Gunners first loss in the league came in a controversial 1-0 loss to Newcastle.
It should be noted that the ball which appeared to have gone out of play was crossed by Joe Willock. The English midfielder was sold to the Magpies by Arsenal and is a Hale End graduate.
Apparently, Willock is said to have told some Arsenal players that the ball appeared to have gone out of play before he crossed it. This was used as Arsenal’s core in the fighting of this case. Besides, the Gunners had also hired a criminal lawyer to argue out the case.
In his post match conference, Mikel called the officiation a disgrace and am embarrassment. Apparently the criminal lawyer argued that the word is closely related to the Spanish word desgracia. And the two have two completely different meanings.
“Arteta was told by certain Arsenal players that Willock (a former Arsenal player). Had expressed the view that the ball had gone out of play before he crossed into the penalty area,” the FA wrote.
There was fear amongst Arsenal fans that Arteta might get a touchline ban that would prevent him from the Liverpool clash. Arsenal and Liverpool will clash at Anfield in a supposedly top of the table clash.
However, both sides have mouthwatering clashes this weekend. Arteta’s Arsenal will host Brighton at the Emirates. It follows a 1-0 loss to Aston Villa where the Spaniard was suspended from the touchline.
Liverpool who are a point above Arsenal will host their bitter rivals, Manchester United. All games will be played on Sunday. Meanwhile with the way Joe Willock saved Mikel Arteta from punishment, many Arsenal supporters have hailed him.
