Referee Ali Sabilla Chelengat’s unjust refereeing during Vipers SC’s Stanbic Uganda Cup quarterfinal loss against Kitara on Sunday has prompted a petition to be sent to FUFA.
After a stalemate in regulation and extra time, Kitara won 5-4 on penalties.
Referee Sabila gave three penalties in the same game; two went to Kitara and one to Vipers SC.
Vipers have now petitioned FUFA on the events that transpired during the game at Masindi Municipal Stadium in a letter that was signed by their CEO, Simon Peter Njuba.
According to a letter obtained by this website, Vipers claim that referee Sabilla gave Kitara a penalty in the 66th minute, which was never justified because Jude Semugabi, the player who was allegedly fouled, was only acting in simulation.
The Venoms claim in the same letter that they were refused a legitimate penalty by the same referee in the 87th minute when their player was fouled in front of the official and in the prohibited area.
They also brought up the event in which they lost 1-0 to KCCA in the Uganda Premier League at Kitende due to a late penalty granted by the same referee, Sabilla.
According to Vipers, it is troubling and dishonorable that match officials who preside over events like the ones listed above never face consequences, despite the fact that the evidence against them is very evident.
The news is announced just before Vipers SC and Kitara FC square battle once more in the Uganda Premier League at Masindi Municipal Stadium.
