According to De Telegraaf, Arsenal is interested in acquiring Feyenoord goalkeeper Justin Bijlow as a backup for David Raya.
Raya was brought in by the Gunners last summer on loan from Brentford, with the option to buy. When the transfer window reopens, they are anticipated to activate the clause.
The team appears to be getting ready for Aaron Ramsdale’s departure in the meanwhile, as Bijlow is being considered as Raya’s possible rival and backup for the upcoming season.
According to the Daily Telegraph, Arsenal is looking for two goalkeepers who can play well with the ball, like Ederson and Stefan Ortega at Manchester City.
The Englishman had two good campaigns between the sticks, but the manager still opted to sign Raya last summer due to his better passing attributes.
Ramsdale did make 11 appearances over the season, but he had some nervous moments. He made two high-profile errors in the away win over Brentford.
Against the same opposition at home, he gifted a goal with a blunder. Ramsdale redeemed himself with two fantastic saves, but that could be his final Arsenal game.
The 26-year-old is still a good shot-stopper and could look to revive his career elsewhere.
Meanwhile, Bijlow would be a quality acquisition. He had an injury-plagued campaign, but was still impressive with 33 passes completed per outing.
The 26-year-old might try to restart his career somewhere because he is still a capable shot-blocker.
Bijlow would be a great addition in the interim. Despite having a season hampered by injuries, he was still rather good, completing 33 passes per game.
In addition, the star from the Netherlands averaged six long balls for the 2022–23 Eredivisie winners.
His contract is set to expire in a few years, therefore Arsenal will be looking to sign him for less than the £20 million Feyenoord valued him at last summer.
