13 Match Officials Suspended by FUFA over alleged match fixing

Due to their possible involvement in match-fixing, 13 people have been suspended from all football-related activities by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) for a period of 90 days.
Ten match officials—Ali Kaddu, Atuheirwe Joyce, Nabisera Tausi, Geoffrey Sajjabi, Noor Hassan, Muyaga Khalid, Okello Simon Peter, Atuhaire Dorcus, Ichilla Samuel, and Nantantya Godwin—are among the suspended persons.

Additionally, Epieru Richard and former BUL FC CEO Ahmed Kongola have been suspended by the Federation.

The other football player suspended by FUFA is Kiyemba Latif.
The FUFA Ethics and Disciplinary Committee’s Investigatory Chamber claims to have received signals indicating that an organized criminal organization had targeted multiple games in the 2023–2024 football season for manipulation for betting reasons.

The FUFA Ethics and Disciplinary Code 2023’s Article 77(8) mandates that formal investigation procedures be initiated against the 13 individuals.

Internal investigations into the situation were initiated in accordance with Article 78 of the FUFA Ethics and Disciplinary Code 2023. These investigations have subsequently shown that the conspiracy to rig the matches was orchestrated and funded by a South African match-fixing syndicate.

Together with other local criminal elements, Hilfiger Mutyaba, also known as Chelsea, led the operation on behalf of the match-fixing syndicate.

Mutyaba is an ex-convict who was found guilty of financial offenses in the Virgin Islands and given a sentence.

Referee Kaddu Ali was hired by Hilfiger Mutyaba, also known as Chelsea, and his accomplices. Kaddu Ali’s job was to approach and recruit players, club officials, and referees on behalf of the match-fixers in order to include them in the rigging of matches.

The investigation into this match-fixing operation has so far pinpointed a few of the matches that the match-fixing syndicate intended to manipulate between October 2023 and December 2023.
