Enzo Maresca says that Enzo Fernandez was forgiven

When midfielder Enzo Fernandez joins the Chelsea team for their preseason tour next week, head coach Enzo Maresca is optimistic that there won’t be any issues within the group.

Wesley Fofana, Fernandez’s teammate at Chelsea, accused him of “uninhibited racism” after Fernandez streamed an insulting song live from Argentina’s team bus after their Copa America victory against Colombia.

The Argentina midfielder apologized in public and contacted the team to convey his regret for his behavior. He was granted permission to take a vacation following the competition.

On July 29, Fernandez will take a plane to America to begin his preseason with the Chelsea team, meeting his teammates in person for the first time since the event.

Enzo Maresca, though, seems unconcerned about a potential rift inside the group. He said: “I don’t think so to be honest. At the end, they are all human beings. There is no bad intention from any one of them. I don’t think when Enzo is back, we will have any problems. The player and club clarified the situation.

“It’s great the player did the statement to apologise. The club did the same. There is not something to add to the situation. It’s clear and clarified.”
