Kitara climb back to top of the UPL table after beating Express

The Uganda Premier League title battle took a new turn when BUL lost to NEC at Lugogo, and Kitara came back to the top with a thrilling victory over Express.

Kitara defeated Express 2-1 in the Mutesa II stadium, Wankulukuku following a Kabon Livinggoal which was a late winner for the visiting Kitara team.

In the eleventh minute, Denis Omedi gave the visitors the lead after a quick counterattack, with Frank Zaga providing the assist.

Seven minutes later, Wagoina equalized on a skillfully executed free kick that he won after Maxwell Owachigiu challenged him.

The game then even out as neither team could capitalize on chances to score the second.

On the sixth of the eight extra minutes, Kabon curled a corner into the net to give the away fans a wild celebration.

Omedi appeared to have fouled an Express FC player prior to the ball going for the corner, which sparked objections before the corner.

Second, they think the ball was already out of play when the Express defender headed it, proving there was no corner.

Nevertheless, it made no difference as Kitara led the standings with 47 points after 25 games, one more than BUL and Vipers in second place, who also struggled at NEC.

Under the lights at Lugogo, the Jinja-based team lost in the 57th minute when a Tom Ikara howler gave Tah Barni Kelvin a chance to shoot into an empty net.

Additionally, Abbey Kikomeko, the coach of BUL, received his second red card of the year.

With four games left in the campaign, NEC is now four points behind the leaders with 43.

On Thursday, the league resumes with Villa and KCCA playing away at Soltilo Bright Stars and Gaddafi, respectively.
