Jackson Mayanja, the former head coach of KCCA FC, has urged Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa, the president of Vipers SC, to stop disparaging indigenous coaches. Mulindwa criticized certain local coaches for their lack of professionalism on Wednesday morning during the Vipers’ introduction of new head coach Nikola Kavazovic.
Mayanja, the former head coach of Bunamwaya (now known as Vipers), has retaliated by saying that Lawrence Mulindwa had to professionalize his squad before going after local coaches.
“Dr Mulindwa should first professionalise his club instead of attacking local coaches. He has done a tremendous role in Ugandan football but his club also lack professionalism.”
“I know there are local coaches who lack professionalism but since Vipers SC is big club now, it also needs to be professionalised.” I appreciate all the way it has come from Bunamwaya to where it is right now but it lacks professionalism as well.” Further he added that:-
“He (Mulindwa) has unveiled a new head coach and if that coach also fails will he turn the blame to the players for failing to deliver success. I believe he should be the first person to show professionalism.”
Charles Livingstone Mbabazi was named head coach by Vipers earlier this year, but Mulindwa claims the tactician abruptly left the position a few months into his tenure.
Prior to this, Mayanja was the assistant coach at AS Kigali, KCCA FC, Rwanda’s Sunrise, URA FC, Bunamwaya SC, Kagera FC, Simba SC, Kyetume FC, and AS Kigali. In addition, he functioned as head coach of the Uganda Hippos (U20) and assistant coach of the Uganda Cranes.
