FUFA appoints Matia Lule as new Uganda Hippos Coach

In advance of the AFCON Zonal Qualifiers, which will take place in Tanzania next month, FUFA has officially announced the appointment of Matia Lule as the Uganda Hippos (U20) coach.
Lule, who led the Cubs (U17) in 2014 and the Hippos in 2018, takes over for Morley Byekwaso, who is now the head coach of SC Villa.

Prior to the conclusion of the previous campaign, Lule was working as Fred Kajoba’s (RIP) assistant coach at Ihefu SC in the Tanzania Premier League.

Previously, he coached Tanzanian teams Stand FC, Mbeya City, and Singida Big Stars in addition to KCCA FC, Express FC, Proline FC, and Entebbe FC.

During Sebastien Desabre’s tenure, Lule served as the Uganda Cranes’ assistant coach.

Simeon Massa will serve as his temporary replacement as his direct assistant, and Steven Billy Kiggundu and Noah Kasule Babadi will serve as their respective goalkeeping and fitness coaches.

The Uganda Hippos preliminary team has been revealed, and on Monday, September 16, they will report to camp.

Along with Ethiopia, Burundi, and South Sudan, Uganda is placed in Group B.

Tanzania is one of the hosts in Group A, along with Sudan, Rwanda, Djibouti, and Kenya.

The top two teams in the competition will be guaranteed a spot in the AFCON U20 competition the following year.
